Sydney Spot

Sydney is fine, but she is up for "Most Likely to Be Taken To The Vet" award. I had heard somebun cough the day before, that coupled with a morning episode of phlegmy hacking and more coughing later was enough to send me to the phone. Though it seemed probable that the morning episode was the result of a pellet being snarfled before chewing properly. By the time the afternoon rolled around she seemed fine, eating, grooming, checking out the playroom (DS bedroom). Tyler unvoluntarily accompanied her, just for fun, on my part not his. Everything was fine, teeth, lungs,  ears, eyes, tummy. We agreed that it was just a pellet incident. There is a tremendous amount of excitement around pellets. Sydney was weighed at the vet and she weighed exactly the same as she did about a year ago. It has been about nine months since we transitioned to Sherwood Forest Natural Rabbit Food M/S. In some circles it is controversial that they put some alfalfa in their adult rabbit formula, it is thought that will make rabbits fat as it is too rich. Sydney says otherwise, she maintains that it is a balanced formula and even has improved the quality of her fur.

Everybun Must Get Stoned

Do forgive the poor quality of these photos, but at least they do illustrate the point.

Sydney demos another therapeutic placement of the magical healing stones; this balances two sides of the body, the Yin and Yang.

Harriet shows how to gently rest one's dewlap on a stone to cool the upper jiao (upper part of the body in Chinese Med lingo) for better meditation practice, the second lower stone serves to root the treatment in the middle jiao (stomach).

The frog is not technically a stone, but Amelia is very close to her frog and seems to derive something from that proximity.

Also, an interesting aside, that might help other buns. I have been in contact with Basil's human, you remember Basil, the Flemish Giant? anyway she established by trial and error that Basil was allergic to hay (to be more precise the DUST on the hay) and it was manifesting and sometimes runny eye and sometimes slight reddish around his sweet, sweet eyes. She now takes his hay outside and sort tosses it in a colander before feeding and that seems to take care of the problem. How cool is that?

Happy Mitochondria Day

Mitochondria the power house of the cell, the organelle without which the cell, the organism, could not function has it's own separate DNA, somewhat like a bacteria AND is inherited from the maternal partner; that is to say from your mom. IQ as well is inherited matrilineally.

Tsunami Relief Print Progress

Sydney 05/01/2011 wishes everyone a happy happy May Day,

may all the workers of the world unite as they jump the Beltane fire.

Colored pencil rubbing of the woodblocks (these are NOT the colors I'm going to use in the print) of print for Tsunami Relief Project, see blocks below.

The paper size for this project was a given 15 by 10 inches, which is bit bigger than I am truly comfortable with, but I think I can get used to it, I'll practice with some lower grade paper. Practice is a magical thing, even if you think you aren't making any progress suddenly one day you are doing it, or at least have improved. The driveway at my house requires backing straight out carefully for about six car lengths. When I first moved in I had a terrible time keeping straight and had to re-calibrate, as it were, once or twice with every backing. Now I don't think twice about it. This project requires an edition of at least 31, which is feeling like a lot. On the other hand, in comparison to getting the raging reactors under control, it seems like a small thing indeed. Although the Fukushima Nuclear Plant has dropped out of mainstream news it is still a huge problem and continues to emit radiation and radioactive isotopes into the environment. As of 4/28 the situation according to the International Atomic Energy Agency was still serious. It is hard to tell extent of the contamination, there are many opinions so it is difficult to decide whom to trust. Bad news is not always true and visa versa, but I am sure that the cry of mayday, mayday, is not out of place.

Popular

Laying next to the water bowls is a very popular activity. I am not sure if the nearness of water is desirable or if it is some sort of power play, or both. I do know that the water bowls have to be secured with a bungee cord or they will be spilled during the shenanigans segment of the daily activities.

Controlled Co-Minglement

Like the locks of a canal or, more accurately the multiple gates of a cattle shoot, I can control where a bun goes, or more or less. This afternoon the opportunity presented itself to have Harriet and Sydney shut in their pen and Amelia and Tyler sharing the rest of the warren. All photos were taken today 03/30/2011

Amelia checked out the facilities on "The Other Side"

and moved on to more chinning.

After a good while I shut Amelia in her pen and let the other girls and Tyler have a go at her non-pen territory.

Sydney chinned the Buddha and used the willow tunnel.

Harriet enjoyed Amelia's under the desk fort/meditation area

and settled in for a nap.

Monday Bunday

Amelia is healing up and appreciates all the well wishes from her fans and the readers of The Qi Papers and friends on Facebook. She is posing here in her private pen with a flannel Laura Ashely flooring that seats atop a layer of washable wool and a non-vinyl shower curtain. Her pen is outfitted with a litter box and a brand new just for her willow tent, which she likes very much.

On the occasion that I have let her out for a hop while I tidied up she has wanted to do nothing better than fight with Harriet through the fence. The Spots and Harriet have fancy flooring too and I must say I certainly appreciate the cheap sheets one can buy at Ross Dress For Less.

These sheets have come in handy not only in creating the rabbit's new rooms, but also as curtains for rest of the warren. The place came without any window coverings and frankly my bank account would go into permanent hemorrhage if I bought hardware and window treatments even of the most low budget sort. Fortunately the windows all had anchors for hardware so it was easy enough fix up a decent looking rod with pieces of bamboo, two inch cotton twill and a screw. Ross provided sheets for curtains (yet to be actually sewn), but all in all it is a cheap, not completely inelegant and washable solution.

Concerned as always about out gassing of the rug and the new vinyls flooring I bought a few more plants to help clean the air. NASA did some good research about what plants are most effective so I rounded out my plant collection with a few more off that list. Ross once again provided lovely homes for my new foliar friends. I loved these blue and white Chinese pots and got them at a damn good price.

Yes, this plant is a bit small for the pot,

but philodendrons are fast growing

and will fill it up in no time.

STAY WARM AND DRY AND READ A GOOD BOOK.

Monday Bunday

It'a hard to keep the place clean with four rabbits, but really I'd rather have rabbits than a spotless house. The Miele, which I appropriated from my parents has been the best vacuum I've ever had the pleasure of using and I've found "green" and reasonably price bags for it. All the rabbits except, strangely, Sydney are semi-terrified of it, Sydney has no fear of the vac.

Tyler has almost put the cord out of commission, but duct tape did done it's magic there. If I am away from the machine for even a second I retract the cord. As you know see Amelia likes it just fine if it's not making any noise. I contacted Miele saying I wanted to send them a picture of my rabbit (their contact system does not allow for attachments) with one of their vacs and was there an Email I could use for this, and they never got back to me. Just another weirdo......
