Monday Bunday:Fennel

One of the many bonuses of going to the Farmer's Market is that you can get Fennel with the tops intact. These tops you can bring home to your rabbits, who like the Fennel very much.

Tyler: Fennel can be grabbed and pulled, pull as much as you can to get maximum harvest from the shopping bag.

Sydney: Fennel can be eaten while your brother grabs more and then you can take some from him. It's OK to do that because he is your brother and has taken food from you.

Tyler: Fennel has soft and crunchy parts, it is not just a food but a total mouth experience. If you have a rabbit get that rabbit some Fennel.

This is so cute. I have to admit that I've never really thought of having rabbits as pets before (I love cats and dogs) but now I'm really thinking about it. They are adorable.

The Fluffies love fennel and I get grunted at quite frequently if I return home from the market without it.

LoL. I'm definitely going to have to look into getting my buns some fennel.

Sydney: It's a relief to know that my buns aren't the only ones who steal food out of each other's mouths!! For awhile there I was getting worried and wondering how to put a stop to this! But if The Spots do it, it must be normal and healthy behavior. Thanks for setting my mind at ease.

I would love to try it, but I'm gun shy after giving Razzy some Kale and he ended up with a UTI. Now sudden weight loss is an issue. Waiting on blood work results from vet.
Your babies seem to be enjoying every single bit of it. Precious!

Fennel! Yes! I will run to the grocery store immediately and buy fennel. Actually, we have never tried it, but we will!

I just realized two things:

1-I very much want some fennel.

2-You spend a lot of your time at bun-level. How are your haunches these days? They must be sore on Tuesdays.

well the Spots certainly seem to be happy eating all that fennel.... I'll remember the tip if we ever get another bunny....

I love the Spots' pictures with fennel!
Fennel is THE veggie treat around here...everybun is very keen on getting to the soft feathery leaves at first, and all the other veggies are neglected if fennel is around. Note for Michelle: unlike kale, that should be given in very limited quantities, fennel is no problem for a bunny, but like any new veggie should be introduced slowly in Razzy's diet. Fennel is known to have digestive properties and is good for upset tummies, and in addition is a great source of minerals :) Go get some fennel to your buns :)

Y- thanks for adding the nutrition part of Fennel. Yes, fennel is lower in both Calcium and Oxalates which both imbalance the bunny urinary system.
P-RE:2:actually not......I seem to be easy to fold.
L-Bun manners can seem a bit uncivilized.....
MOC, BG,G, AFT, P-enjoy!

I just followed a link to you from theraspberryrabbits. Trying to get a hang of this blog thing. I didn't realise there were so many bunnies that blogged!

I haven't tried fennel, I will keep an eye out. I think it's a shame how many shops chop off the best bits, carrot tops, cauliflower leaves etc. If you ask the market stall holders nicely sometimes they'll give you a bag with all the chopped off bits for free... perfect for hungry bunnies.

Looks yummy. You get so much nicer looking fresh veggies than we do here. The fennel I saw last looked like a lab accident.
