Controlled Co-Minglement
Like the locks of a canal or, more accurately the multiple gates of a cattle shoot, I can control where a bun goes, or more or less. This afternoon the opportunity presented itself to have Harriet and Sydney shut in their pen and Amelia and Tyler sharing the rest of the warren. All photos were taken today 03/30/2011
Amelia checked out the facilities on "The Other Side"
and moved on to more chinning.
After a good while I shut Amelia in her pen and let the other girls and Tyler have a go at her non-pen territory.
Sydney chinned the Buddha and used the willow tunnel.
Harriet enjoyed Amelia's under the desk fort/meditation area
and settled in for a nap.

Name This Bun
This cutie was rescued from a shelter, courtesy of The Rabbit Haven.
He's about 6 months old and weighs 1.5 pounds.
As you can see he's as cute as the day is long.
A very mellow fellow.
Leave name suggestions in comments.

Can You Do This?
Harriet 03/25/2011
Questions have been asked about Tyler's rock. The truth is there are some five rocks. They help stabilise the corners of the pen, hold down towels, that sort of thing. They do not have names, it's complicated with rocks. In Tibetan medicine rocks have gender, so I need to be careful, I wouldn't want to insult a rock.

Today We had Rain
There was a lot of rain today, and the power was out for quite a while. During a brief break in the down pour some light of sorts shone from the sky.

Rain Today
There was much rain today, and at this writing it continues to rain, unabated. Some radioactive particulate from Japan has been detected in California, but at this point, only in minuscule amounts. Radiation Network shows normal levels for San Francisco, the post nearest to the warren. Our greatest concern lies with Japan; our wishes for the soonest possible safe resolve for the Japanese Nuclear situation are beyond words.

Triple Rabbit Day
clockwise from the lower right: Sydney, Tyler, Harriet, Amelia 03/13/2011
Today was triple Rabbit Day; in the year of the Rabbit in the Rabbit month there is also a Rabbit day. Yes, you surmise correctly, there are rotating Chinese zodiac animals for the years, the months and the days and to be really complex, for every two hour period during the day. So today from 6-8 A.M. daylight savings time, there were FOUR rabbits hopping around the astral plane or whether the animals cavort when it is their turn .

Today we thought a lot about the inhabitants of Japan and their land.

May the best possible outcome take place soon.

The four rabbits who are always here got their pens cleaned, it was a small way to make the world a little better.

Today We Had a Tsunami
Tyler and Sydney 03/12/2011
Today we had a Tsunami, you can see all kinds of footage of it all over the web. Although this warren was quite safe we were treated to a day of helicopters. The Santa Cruz Harbor is now basically toast and Santa Cruz is declared a disaster area by the Governor. Of course you know that Tsunamis are caused by earthquakes and you also know that animals can sometimes predict earthquakes. You also know that it was posted on this blog that there was some pretty rowdy behavior yesterday by certain rabbits here. It should also be noted that none of that behavior was present today, in fact every bun was quiet and snuggly. Did rabbits in Santa Cruz sense an earthquake hours and miles away? Can rabbits only predict earthquakes and not Tsunamis? Don't they care about Tsunamis? Why should they care? Who are these rabbits, really?
We send our best wishes to the people of Japan and fervent hopes that the damaged nuclear plants don't melt down.

Double Rabbit Day
Today is/was a Double Rabbit day, that is to say a day in the Rabbit month in the Rabbit year*, which could explain the rowdy behavior of all rabbits starting before dawn. Concerned that Harriet was getting too much chased by Sydney I opened up both ends of the big pen, Sydney continued to race around like a, like, like a March Hare while Harriet took a breather under the table. Apparently it was all good natured fun because there were a few binkys thrown into the race.
Amelia in a nest of her own design, this towel was originally in her willow tent.
The perfection of nature versus man made objects cannot be denied.
Harriet made it to the top of the bookcase and up the wall today, 03/10/2011.

Harriet's Clubhouse
Harriet has a private space under the kitchen table. She likes to go there to be alone with her thoughts. I know this to be true because when I take pictures of her she goes somewhere else.

Two Pics
Due to battery charging issues there was not the usual plethora of photos from which to choose on today the eighth day of March two thousand and eleven, so perhaps these are not the very, very best of possible photos of the day but certainly the best to be had.
Harriet 03/08/2011
Harriet explores the kitchen linoleum. Not a favorite footing for anybun, but tolerated by Harriet and Tyler. Harriet has a hang out under the kitchen table, I put down a throw rug and some towels, she needs her own space when Sydney gets bossy. Both Harriet and Tyler are very interested in getting into the garage, you can see the door in the back of the photo. The refrigerator is in there and new territory calls with siren sweetness.
Tyler 03/08/2011
Tyler sits with his turtle friend in silent communion. Behind Tyler you can see a "door cuff", three sided made of pine, it protects the door jam from lagomorph teeth and provides a chew station. Never remove a pleasure without offering an alternative.

Monday Baby Bunday
I took more pictures of those baby bunnies today. As you can see between their constant movement, less than optimal lighting, and extreme cuteness, the camera had a very hard time getting a focussed image. The babies fit right in the palm of your hand and are so tame, trusting and sweet, they will fall asleep on their backs, feets to the sky, while you are holding them. When I see my rabbits they seem like huge oafs but at the same time I can hardly imagine their cuteness at two weeks. Can you even imagine Harriet with her little mits?
Yes, this one is standing on his/her tippy toe and going straight up!!
