Monday Bunday

I think I can say that all bunny slaves love to watch their rabbits eat. Not only is a good appetite a sign of health, but rabbits just seem to love to eat and can do so with a delightful vigor.

I wish I could have sound included with this photo.

One of Tyler and Sydney's foods is fresh picked Chicory leaves straight from the garden, only seconds from being plucked from the plant. These are greeted with great excitement and sometimes a bink or two.

Tyler has to open his eyes very wide in order to make room for the leaf in his little bunny mouth.

It is a wild sport eating these big greens, almost larger than the buns themselves (especially in Tyler's case). When Sydney first came to live here she wanted her food in small pieces and just wouldn't go after a single large leaf in it's more or less natural state. Now she can keep up with her brother without a thought.

Sydney says "The last bit is easy when you can brace the stalk on the floor."

Despite the effort, or perhaps because of it, garden Chicory appears to be their favorite food. Tyler's tongue tells that truth.

Nom, nom, nom.

I think you're right! I love to watch rabbits eating. It's amazing how the food just keeps going in and in and in! I used to live in a studio and I used to have two rabbits. I would feed them their veggies at night before going to sleep. As I lay in bed in the dark I could hear the two of them chewing on their greens. That's the soothing sound of happy buns!

Greens from our own garden are greeted with far more enthusiasm than greens from the farmer's market- their eyes are open wide, and they don't look as bored while eating. And my desk is right next to their hutch, so I can often smell their bunny breath as they eat.

My big girl Cecilia is a much better eater than her brother Max. He's the picky one, the cranky one, and not the alpha bun, so he gets an extra raisin or two. Cecilia binks for raisins; Max, not so much. Max binks for nothing!

Nothing like a hungry bunny! And it seems they're always up for a treat. Kind of like me.

Normally, I don't find bunny tongues so attractive, they look too tiny for their bodies, but this is sooooooocute!

It's so funny how such small creatures can put away such huge amounts of greens, right? Mine munch happily away at spring greens like nobody's business, and Miss Eve will eat everything anyway. Hugo is the picky one, or shall I say the not-so-food-driven bunny. However, things look different if you offer him banana or pumpkin seeds!!
I love the pics of Sydney and Tyler - great Monday Bunday contribution :)

The Princess can rummage all around in a salad for a long time until she finds whatever she knew was in there. Then she sits back, her eyes sort of glaze over, and she chews with what sure looks like a smile.

Great pix of T and S being happy!

I haven't tried chicory. The chickens favorite green by far is French sorrel. They luuuurve it.

Unfortunately I don't have time for a garden for my buns. Yours are so lucky. Great pics!
