A Prize

Today in the mail the prize we won in a drawing from Lavender Rabbit arrived. A delightful leaping bunny necklace, Spring Hare to be exact, which Amelia volunteered to model as a sort of head piece, such as a rabbit might wear to a royal wedding if a rabbit were invited. I wanted to post a better picture of the charming item but camera batteries gave out (you can see a better photo at Lavender Rabbit blog) Lavender Rabbit kindly included a bag of Simple Rewards Veggie treats for our warren. 4 Buns are grateful (crunch, crunch). You can visit Lavender Rabbit the store here and the blog here. Go to the store, it's an Etsy shop, there's lots of bunny related jewelry items and buy something, no need to be jealous of my Spring Hare. We send a shout out to the talented Dot, the bun who chooses the winner of the drawing, thanks Dot, that bag of carrots will be arriving any day now.

Shapeshifter

In just five minutes Tyler changed his shape at least as many times, here are just a few examples. All photos are Tyler on 04/24/2011 as part of the Bun-A-Day-Plan for the Year of the Rabbit. If you are not yet a follower, join the party! it's over to the right.

Popular

Laying next to the water bowls is a very popular activity. I am not sure if the nearness of water is desirable or if it is some sort of power play, or both. I do know that the water bowls have to be secured with a bungee cord or they will be spilled during the shenanigans segment of the daily activities.

Dainty Feet

Although a rabbit's feet can't really be dainty when they are so big, dainty is as dainty does.

The soft white bellies pictured in the Under post were, to wit, Tyler periscoping and Amelia with paws on the fence.

Harriet may not have a white belly, but she is assuredly the softest bunny of the bunch.

PS if you are not already a follower, go ahead and join the throng! It's a rabbit party for The Year of the Rabbit!!

Sad

Today, 04/18/2011 we were so sad to to learn that one of our friends, Freckles, has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. She was a queen of her kind, fierce, brave, intelligent and creative, and she was a marvelous writer. She will be sorely missed 'round the world. Binky free and often, Freckles.

The soft white under bellies of the beasts. Can you tell which soft whiteness belongs to what bun?

Being Doing

Getting concerned that I was posting too many photos of rabbits lounging around and looking cute, my plan for today was to get some action pics. Alas actually capturing Sydney jumping over Tyler or some other Cirque de Soleil worthy bunny trick was not in the cards. However this photo shows Amelia exhibiting some interesting learned behavior. About two months ago I switched from Eco Straw as the bottom layer of the litter box, the top layer being hay, to Country Cat. Now the more economical Country Cat is just pellets made out of organic wheatgrass, not much different than the Eco Straw, unless you are a rabbit with discriminating tastes. Sydney was the first to discover the taste treat in the fresh box and I would see round holes in the hay from with the wheat grass pellets had been extracted. Pretty soon all the rabbits were doing it. Today I didn't put any Country Cat layer in because being at the end of the hay I had lots of fine bits that seemed just perfect as the bottom layer. And yet every rabbit is still acting as if they are finding tasty treats in the bottom of the box. How long will it take to unlearn the behavior? How long does behavior take to change after the reward is no longer extant? Or is the digging reward enough? Is being a rabbit in a fresh hay box reward enough?

Face Bunny

One of DS's names for Amelia is, for obvious and appropriate reasons, "Face Bunny" or sometimes simply "The Face". Although this is a vertical presentation, the horizontal approach is often the first thing I see in the morning; curious, demanding and wanting breakfast or a pet in no particular order.

Today, 04/13/2011, Harriet, applied her tail to two different rocks in different locations at different times.

Dueling Feets

Around here when feet duel it is either a case of boxing through the fence or the deadly use of sheer unadulterated cuteness.

Explaining

From the photo below you can clearly see why Amelia is sometimes called the Great White Zeppelin. It is in no way a derogatory comment on her weight, size or shape. Zeppelins are, for their size, quite light, so much so in fact that they float. Amelia is such such a mellow girl that I can, gently always, scoop her up, fore and aft as it were, and float her up like one of the great airships of the past. Like a Zeppelin she is lighter than she looks, possibly because of her very balanced and modern streamlined design.

Here Tyler is resting his head on his rock. The lower part of the other side of him is in the sun and he has essentially put himself into a trance. I say this because I had to put him into his pen, when I picked him up he was like the rock he had used as his pillow. Heavy, dense, in love with gravity. He may not have even noticed his transport to another bun zone.

Tyler 04/07/2011

And finally Sydney and Tyler just after a modest dinner, Tyler is exhausted from an entire day of being as cute as possible. Note: this is the exact same place as the rock episode above, "furniture" was moved for cleaning.

Grooming

Today all four rabbits got brushed and had their glands cleaned. Amelia had the most fur removed, then Tyler, Sydney and Harriet brought up the rear in the shedding competition. Tyler visited Amelia in her space after he got brushed and finished up her ears, which I had, apparently, not done right at all.
